”懂你英语“ is the core course on the app "英语流利说”, and is being divided to an individual app currently. It was developed to help people learn English in the most effective and convenient way, just like learning their mother language. For the first time, this course succeeds in combining the latest theory of how people learn with the most advanced technology, including the world’s best speech recognition.
I did the UX design for the course from scratch, from user research & analysis, concept & user flow design, to the detailed animation design. With the main focus on app design, I also did the UX & UI design for backend platform, and some H5 tools for events and teaching assistant.
Since the release, 懂你英语 was widely commended by the users for its effectiveness and engagement. The course sales are growing rapidly, and students' study results have been beyond expectation.

The key points of the product design are:

Stick to the learning theory, which is a main challenge as it is quite different from Chinese learners' language learning habit;

User should feel the sense of purpose, warmth, and joy.
Design Process
The design and development of the course is carried out constantly. Though each product version focuses on different features, the design process remains similar.
Main Features
A placement test will be done by each user, in order to know about their English ability and place them at a suitable level.
When users open the course for the first time, the course designer Lance Knowles will give them a warm welcome, and guide them through briefly to make a study plan.
A variety of activities were designed to convey the content, and keep students always engaged.
After the study session, detailed feedback will be given on users' performance, study behavior and the problems they've encountered.
Track the study progress in real time, so that students can see how well they've learnt clearly.
Once daily or weekly goal is reached, users will be congratulated, or receive rewards.
