SWIMO

Product & Service System for Beachside Swimming Safety

Joint Master Project + Ubiquitous Product & Service Innovation | Sep. 2013 - Feb. 2014

This is a cross-national project involving Delft University of Technology, Aalto University and Budapest University of Technology & Economics. Our team , "Itch", consists of four designers and one mechanical

engineer from different countries: China, Hungary and Iran, supervised by the coach from Aalto University.

The team was required to select one social problem to solve by ubiquitous technology and cyber-physical system. Setting off from a piece of blank paper, we did research on a series of social problems, and chose "beachside swimming safety" problem to work on further. In-depth research was done on the problem and related technologies. Based on that, the interaction and product vision of the solution was proposed.

The final concept is Swimo, a swimming tracker watch supported by a smartphone application. It monitors the heart rate, blood oxygen and hand movement of the swimmer as the index of swimming performance and indicator of emergency. The alarming system will be triggered when an emergency occurs.

The video below was made as an Abstract Prototype in the early phase of the project, in order to illustrate the scenario of the concept and test it with others. The feedback was adopted for the refinement of the concept.
